The use of the guitar in jazz music dates back to the late 1930's and has evolved through the years to encompass a diversity of styles from classic jazz to fusion and a variety of techniques such as:

  • Picking (alternate, "economy", sweep, etc.)
  • Fingerstyle (a la Joe Pass or Tuck Andress)
  • Every combination imaginable (pick, fingers, thumb)
  • Trademarks (octaves- "Wes style")

Every jazz guitarist takes a personal approach to playing music and incorporates ideas from just about every genre you can think of. Joey likes to incorporate guitar instrumental sounds of classic pop, R&B, and Motown with his jazz harmonic sense. His cover of "Brandy, You're a Fine Girl" is a shining example.

Besides being a musician and song writer, Joey is a student of the jazz guitar and computer-based recording technologies. Besides info on Joey and his music, you will also find articles on making and recording music and stories about famous guitar players and their guitars.

Enjoy and vist often!
